God, give me wisdom...wisdom to make the right choices. To see things
through honest eyes and a heart to continue to love those who hate or
wrong me.
God, give me strength. The strength to be true to myself and to others.
The strength to admit my losses and the strength to stand up for what I
believe in no matter what the cost.
God, give me courage. The courage to continue to do this job, for I've
seen and been responsible for more than my fair share of it's worst.
God, give me emotion so that I remember what it's like to feel. Emotion
to mourn with the families of my fellow soldiers and the tolerance to
forgive the blind who will never understand what this life is like.
God, give me love or at least the chance for it. The opportunity to freely
love and not be taken away from it.
God, give me freedom, for I lost it long ago and continue to watch those
who have it take it for granted.
God, give me opportunity. The opportunity to take back the time that
I've lost with my family, the holidays that I have missed with them and
the opportunity to hold my nephew for the first time.
Let me remember what it's like to be human, to hurt when my heart is
broken, to cry when my dog dies, the choice to sleep in at least one day
of the week. Let me remember what it's like to have friends that I don't
have to worry about.
Most of all...if I get the opportunity to have my freedom back, then God
never...never ever...let me take it for granted. If I fall, I don't ask to be
honored or appreciated. For I have earned something within myself and
that is something that can never be taken from me. If you know
someone in any branch of the military, take the time to write them or
give them a call. You have no idea how much it means to them.
